During World War Two, Willys won the contract to produce Jeeps for soldiers against Ford due to its more powerful engine and lower cost. Willys produced 363,000 Jeeps during this time. After the war, Willys started to produce civilian versions of the Jeep with the Wrangler replacing the original Jeep in 1987 manufactured by Chrysler under its Jeep marque which is one of the few remaining four-wheel drive vehicles with solid front and rear axles known for its strength and articulation. As well as the Wrangler, Jeep also has the more family oriented Grand Cherokee.
